Briana Clah (Navajo) led all scorers with 15 points as Fort Lewis Skyhawks Handle Grizzlies, 63-48

ALAMOSA, Colo. – December 13, 2016 – Behind Alyssa Yocky‘s third double-double of the season, the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team recorded a 63-48 win at Adams State University Tuesday night at Plachy Hall in Alamosa, Colo.  The win improves the Skyhawks to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

“We definitely weren’t at our best tonight, but we were good enough to get this win,” said head coach Jason Flores.  “They play a really unorthodox zone defense that we didn’t have much time to prepare for and it definitely got us out of rhythm.”

Yocky netted 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with her five steals.  Yocky and the Skyhawks out-rebounded ASU by 17 boards, 49-32.

Briana Clah (Navajo) led all scorers with 15 points.  Clah hit 5-of-10 field goals, 3-of-6 three-point field goals and both free throw attempts.

The Skyhawks outscored ASU in the first two quarters to take a 31-19 lead at the half.  FLC finished the third and fourth quarters with a 32-29 scoring advantage.

The Skyhawks made 21-of-55 field goals for 38.2 percent, but struggled from the free throw line, connecting on only 16-of-27 attempts for 59.3 percent.  FLC attempted 20 more free throws than the Grizzlies, who made 6-of-7 attempts.

FLC netted 32 points in the paint and scored 20 points off of the Grizzlies 21 turnovers.  FLC also held a 12-0 fast break advantage.

The Skyhawks will play host to Westminster College on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a non-conference game on Monday against Western New Mexico University at 5 p.m.
