UTTC Thunderbirds Down Jacks, Advance to NJCAA Region XIII Championship Game

The United Tribes Men’s basketball knew they had let a game slip away from them the last time the two teams met.  On Wednesday night the Thunderbirds did just enough to win and advance to the Region XIII championship game on Sunday afternoon.

The first half started slow and Tribes trailed early on.  They were able to right the ship and head to the locker room at halftime in a tie game.  In the second half they settled in and held on to a hard fought 91-89 victory.

Amaury Matthews led the way with 35 points and 9 rebounds.  Antwan Antonio had 16 points and 6 assists and Xavier Norris chipped in 10 points and 6 assists.

Adrian Farmer played big all night for the undersized Thunderbirds and worked his way to 8 points and a team high 13 rebounds.  Ernest Grant came off the bench and provided a huge spark.  He calmly knocked down three 3 pointers in the second half as Tribes went on a 29-13 run.

The Thunderbirds have a chance to claim their first Region XIII Championship since 2002 on Sunday afternoon against Dakota County Technical College in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
