University of Alaska-Anchorage Ink second Alaska 3A prep star with Barrow’s Travis Adams (Inupiaq)

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball coach Rusty Osborne announced Thursday that Barrow High School’s Travis Adams (Inupiaq) has become the latest in-state talent to join the Seawolf program, signing a National Letter of Intent this week.

The 5-10 point guard from Utqiaġvik will enter his senior season this fall with nearly 1,200 career points and 450 career assists, piloting the Whalers to three consecutive conference titles and back-to-back ASAA 3A State titles as a freshman and sophomore.

“We are excited to welcome Travis to the Seawolf family,” said Osborne. “Travis is a true point guard with not only basketball skills but the intangibles of a winner. He has won three state titles, including one in football, and he understands that the success of the team is what matters most. He has shown the ability to make big plays at the most important times, and brings out the best in his teammates.”

As a junior last year, Adams averaged 13.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game, while shooting 42 percent from the field. In March, he earned his third straight selection to the ASAA 3A All-State Tournament Team, leading Barrow to a third-place finish.

“Barrow is a tremendous basketball town and coach (Jeremy) Arnhart has consistently challenge his teams with great competition, which has benefitted Travis,” added Osborne, who earlier this week signed another 3A star – Grace Christian’s Tobin Karlberg – to an NLI as well. “With the addition of Travis, we have a very talented core group of young guards who we feel all complement one another. They should lead our program for the next 4-5 years.”
