Mark Davis Finishes Sixth Overall in the High Jump at NAIA Championships

MARION, Ind. – The Bacone College Warriors returned home after a successful outing at the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championship from May 24-26 where they tallied a total of five All-American awards in a variety of events.

Mark Davis, Navajo, NAIA High Jump All-American

Among the award winners was freshman Mark Davis, a member of the Navajo nation, who finished sixth overall in the NAIA in the men’s high jump. Davis made it past the opening round after clearing the 6 feet, 6 inches mark on his second attempt; he later cleared 6 feet, 8 inches in the second round which solidified his All-American status.

“Mark really did a great job in his first year,” said Bacone track coach Shawn Venable. “To be able to not only qualify for nationals but become an All-American in his freshman year speaks of how far he’s come as an athlete. He’s got a bright future and I’m excited to see him grow as an athlete.”

Davis qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship on May 10 at the Oklahoma Baptist Last Chance track meet; there he cleared 6 feet, 9 inches even.

Bacone finished with a final score of 18 points at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship and placed 16th in the country.
