SHERIDAN, Wyo. — The Professional Indian Horse Racing Association All Nations Indian Relay Championships will be Sept. 12-14 at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.

Over 30 teams representing 15 Indian nations from across North America will compete for more than $50,000 in prizes and jackets and buckles.

Wearing traditional regalia, six Native American warriors ride bareback around a track. After a lap, riders leap form one galloping horse to another. At the edge of the track, three teammates hold the other two horses while another waits to catch the incoming horse as the rider tosses away the reins and dismounts at full gallop. During the exchange, horses may rear up, flip or get loose.
