Haskell Lady Indians Dominate Bethany 92-51 in Season Opener on the Road

keli_warrior_280_wb2(Lindsborg, Kansas) – The Haskell Indian Nations University Lady Indians opened the 2014-2015 season Monday evening with a big road win over the Bethany Swedes. Haskell easily put away the Swedes by a final score of 92-51 and the Indians had all five of its starters score in double digits. Leading the way for the Indians was Keli Warrior who would eventually end the game leading Haskell with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks.

As the game started both teams traded buckets underneath the basket early. Bethany took a slight advantage 12-10 on the back of solid free throw shooting. Haskell countered with Arnetia Begay hitting a 3 pointer to spark a 13-0 run by the Lady Indians which put them ahead 23-12. Haskell played tough defense as they held Bethany to 15 points to finish the half as the headed into the locker room leading 52-27.

The Swedes started the second half by scoring the first bucket but they were quickly stifled by Tahnee Stands and Tiana Murphy, who hit back to back 3 pointers for the Indians to extend their lead 58-30. Haskell hit a total of 5 straight 3 pointers to gain ground leading to a 67-34 advantage. Haskell finished the game on a 25-17 run to lock down their first win of the season 92-51. Seniors Tahnee Stands had a nice outing scoring 11 points as she went 4 for 4 from the field and 3 for 3 from the three point stripe in 17 minutes of play and Jenine Coriz opened her season with 10 points and a team high 7 assists. Freshman Justina Coriz, sisters of Jenine, also gave a spark off the bench finishing with 7 points, 3 steals and 2 assists in 19 minutes of play. Tinaya Murphy had 13 points and Kortney Meat came off the bench and added 9 for the Indians in 24 minutes of play.
