Cade Johnson (Dakota): Preparing For The 2019 NCAA DII National Championship Football Game

By Dan Ninham (Oneida)

The 2019 NCAA DII National Championship Football Game is Saturday, December 21 in McKinney, Texas. The 14-0 (11-0 in NSIC) Minnesota State Mavericks are playing the 12-2 West Florida Argonauts (7-1 GSC) at 2:00 pm.

Cade Johnson (Dakota) is a 6-1, 200 lb. junior defensive back for Minnesota State University in Mankato. Cade’s hometown is Redwood Falls, MN and he’s from the Lower Sioux Community.

The team is on a roll in the NCAA DII playoffs. They defeated #9 CSU-Pueblo 35-7, #21 Texas A&M-Commerce 42-21, and #8 Slippery Rock 58-15.

“Our preparation for this game is the same as it’s been all year,” said Cade. “Focus on what we do well and what we could improve on. When we continue to play as well and put it out there for each other, we’ll put ourselves in a great position to win.”

“This is a very exciting opportunity with a lot of distractions but we can’t let that pull us away from our preparation. In big games, it’s important not to try to do too much because that’s when uncharacteristic mistakes happen,” added Cade.

Cade has 24 tackles and 2 interceptions in the last 3 games.
