BELLEVUE, Neb. — MorningRain Honani scored 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and grabbed 8 rebounds Saturday as Haskell Indian Nations University fell 71-54 to Bellevue in the Chick-fil-A Classic at BU Fieldhouse.
Honani scored Haskell’s first 12 points as the Indians built a 12-5 lead, and a Trinity Wheeler jumper in the closing seconds gave Haskell a 16-13 edge after one quarter. The teams traded leads through the second quarter before Bellevue’s Taylee Carlson hit a three with two seconds left to send the Bruins into halftime up 35-33.
Haskell briefly retook the lead in the third on an Eryn Roman Nose three-pointer, 40-38, but Bellevue answered with a 14-2 run capped by consecutive threes from Danielle Coyer and Makailyn Horsley, turning a two-point deficit into a 10-point lead. After Honani scored five straight, Horsley answered with a three and two free throws to carry a 57-47 Bellevue lead into the fourth.
Bellevue pulled away from there, with Abbie Nickell scoring eight in the final quarter, including a three at 1:12 that gave the Bruins their largest lead and completed the scoring.
