Alexis Tsosie-Hood (Navajo) throws shutout in sweep at Paradise Valley

The Pima Community College softball team (21-8, 8-2 in ACCAC) continued its stellar play as it swept an ACCAC conference doubleheader on the road at Paradise Valley Community College (2-12, 2-12) on Saturday in Phoenix.
The Aztecs have now won 12 straight games. Sophomore Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) continues to display her power as she has hit eight home runs in the last eight games. She went 5 for 8 with nine RBIs, four runs scored and three home runs. Sophomore Alexis Tsosie-Hood and freshman Ailani Rodriguez (Rio Rico HS) got the wins in the circle.

  • Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 5, Paradise Valley CC Pumas 0: Tsosie-Hood threw a complete game, giving up two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks on 73 pitches.
    The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning when freshman Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) scored on an error.
    Freshman Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel HS) sent the first pitch she saw to center field for a three-run home run. She brought in Marx, who had a single and Zepeda, who drew a walk in the two previous at-bats. The Aztecs took a 4-0 lead.
    Zepeda hit her first home run of the day in the 7th inning as she drove a 2-0 count to center field for a solo homer. She finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, two runs scored and walk.
    Waddell went 1 for 4 with three RBIs while Marx was 3 for 4 with two runs.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 19, Paradise Valley CC 5 (5 innings): The offense could not be contained as they scored their second highest run total this season.
    Zepeda went off once again as she hit her team-leading 10th and 11th home runs of the season. She hit a two-run shot to center field scoring freshman Alyssa Lopez (Sunnyside HS) to make it 3-0. She hit a two-run RBI double to bring around freshmen Jessica Thompson (Tanque Verde HS) and Marina Price (Rincon/University HS) to make it 12-5. She capped off her day with a grand slam to right field scoring Price, sophomore Gabriella Salazar (Marana HS) and Lopez.
    Rodriguez closed out the 1st inning with a two-run RBI single to score sophomore Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) and Cheyanne Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS).
    Salazar and freshman Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) hit back-to-back RBI singles in the 3rd inning to make it 7-3.
    Chacon, Ortiz and Price had RBI hits as part of the five-run 4th inning. The Aztecs scored seven runs in the 5th inning as Price and Salazar had RBI hits in the inning.
    Zepeda finished the game 3 for 5 with eight RBIs and two runs. Price went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Salazar was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks. Rodriguez went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Ortiz closed it out by going 2 for 2 with an RBI, three runs scored and two walks. Chacon finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and four runs.
    Rodriguez picked up the win as she pitched two and one-third innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
