Wyoming Indian Chiefs repeat Cross Country Title–Nine in a Row for WIHS; Lady Chiefs finished Third

(Sheridan, Wyo.) – The Wyoming Indian Chiefs, from the Wind River Reservation, brought home another boys state championship in cross country this morning, capturing, for the ninth year in a row, the Class 2A title with another great team effort. The Chief’s top four runners all finished in the top 10.

The Chiefs girls, meanwhile, finished in third place with 55 points, behind champion Burns/Pine Bluffs with 28 and Thermopolis with 53.

Wyoming Indian ‘s boys scored 24 points, 11 less than second place Saratoga/Encampment at 35. Wright finished third at 51, Lyman was 4th with 71, Rocky Mountain came in with 84 and Burns/PineBluffs rounded out the field with 95 points.

Individually, The Chiefs Cory LameBear was the top finisher for his team, coming in 4th with a time of 18:08.82. Jorge Garcia of Burns/PineBluffs was the overall individual champion, finishing in 16:48.68.

Other runners who scored points for WIHS included Natiun Trosper in 5th (18:13.67), Keilyn Bell in 7th (18:21.35), and Jared White in 9th (18:23.58)

Big Horn, Sundance, Thermopolis and Normative Services Academy failed to field enough runners for a boys team.

Lady Chief finishers included individual runner-up Charlene Brown (20:06.73), 18th Phyllis Gardner (23:44.15 16),  20th Joley Trosper (23:52.87), 21st Morning Gambler (24:00.24) and 22nd Alexandra Trosper (24:03.17 20).

Fort Washakie’s Mia Moss, her school’s only entrant, finished 39th in a time of 26:45.87.

In Class 3-A Boys, Lander Valley’s James Whiting was the top finisher for the 8th place Tigers, coming in at 38th place with a time of 18:33.10.

In Class 4-A Boys, Riverton finished in 12th place. The Wolverines’ top placer was Jason Treadway who finished 63rd with a time of 18:41.04.

The 3A and 4A girls results had not been posted by 1:30 p.m. These results will be added when they become available.
