WNBA Notes: Angel Goodrich (Cherokee Nation) and Seattle Split on the Road with LA and Phoenix; Shoni Schimmel and Dream head home

Seattle Storm

Angel Goodrich (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma got the start for the Seattle Storm versus the Phoenix Mercury last night in place of Sue Bird who was held out to rest a game. Angel played in 29 minutes and ended the night with four points, three assists, and two steals for the Storm who lost 66-83. The previous night the Storm traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Sparks where they won 85-77. Goodrich dished out a game high 6 assists in that game for the Storm.

Atlanta Dream

Shoni Schimmel (Umatilla) and the Atlanta Dream will host the league leading Minnesota Lynx on Friday, August 14th at 7:30 PM EST on NBA TV. Shoni is listed as a probable starter for this game which would be her third consecutive game as the Dreams starting point guard. Last time out Shoni had a season high 13 points versus the Tulsa Shock.

The Dream will return home for multiple games for the first time since July 12 and following a stretch that had seen it play eight of their previous nine games away from home entering this weekend. The Dream will be meeting Minnesota for the final of two meetings this regular season and the second time in 15 days on Friday at Philips Arena. The Dream dropped an 86-70 decision in Min- neapolis on July 31. Maya Moore led a total of five Lynx players who posted double-figure points. Tiffany Hayes paced Atlanta in the loss with 15.

Minnesota leads the all-time series with Atlanta 10-5 and has been victorious in the most recent two meetings – the Dream have won the last two meeting between the teams in Atlanta, last losing at home on August 25, 2012.
