University of South Alabama baseball right-hander Kevin Hill (Muscogee Creek) was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America third team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – University of South Alabama baseball right-hander Kevin Hill (Muscogee Creek Nation) was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America third team, as announced by the organization Wednesday.

Hill, the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, led the SBC in wins (10), ERA (1.73), opposing batting average (.208) and strikeouts (107). He was named to the Louisville Slugger Division I All-American second team, announced byCollegiate Baseball, on May 28 to become the first Jaguar pitcher to earn All-America honors since P.J. Walters in 2006.

The right-hander, who completed his redshirt junior year this season, tossed four complete games – including a stretch of four straight against SBC opponents – and recorded two shutouts in 80 2/3 innings pitched. Hill finished the season with a perfect mark of 10-0 to become the first 10-game winner at USA since D.D. Hanks in 2010. He also became the first Jaguar to record 100-plus strikeouts in a season since Walters (166) in ’06.

“Kevin had a phenomenal year,” head coach Mark Calvi said. “He is the ultimate competitor and a great teammate who gave us a chance to win every time he took the mound. He is certainly deserving of this recognition, and I couldn’t be more proud of him and the striders he has made this year. To be named an All-American speaks for itself – it’s a huge honor.”

Hill is South Alabama’s 27th All-American, and is just the seventh Jaguar pitcher in the program’s 51 years to earn the honor.
