Tyler Sumpter (Paiute/Pyramid Lake) named A.I.I. Conference “Newcomer of the Year” for Haskell Indian Nations University

(Cedar Rapids, IA) – Ahead of the Association of Independent Institutions conference tournament, the A.I.I. held it’s annual pre-conference championship banquet on Thursday where it was announced that Haskell Indian Nations University’s Tyler Sumpter (Pyramid Lake Paiute) was named the conference Newcomer of the Year.

Sumpter, the sophomore Bismarck State transfer, averaged 14 points per game for the Lady Indians this season who finished with a (20-5) overall record and a #21 NAIA National ranking. Tyler also currently ranks No. 10 in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage and she also ranks No. 31 in the nation in total 3-pointers made.

“She definitely deserved the award,” said Head coach Shane Flanagan.  “Tyler is such a competitor and she can beat you from the inside or outside.”

Tyler was also named to the All-A.I.I. First Team and she was the only Haskell player to receive honors on the evening from the conference.
