TJ Ben (Choctaw) Scores 13 Points Mississippi College Who Use Second-Half Surge to Take Down CBU, 72-60

CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College men’s basketball team shot 60% from the floor on their way to a 72-60 victory over Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws improved to 2-6 on the season, while Bucs fell to 2-4.

MC is scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday (Feb. 2) when they host rival Delta State at 6:30 p.m. in Clinton.


HOW IT HAPPENED
  – The Bucs got off to the quick start, scoring seven of the game’s first eight points and taking a 7-1 lead on Daryl Lewis’ dunk less than three minutes in.
  – CBU was able to extend their lead and with 8:49 remaining in the first half, took their largest lead of the night at 21-11.
  – The Choctaws would begin chipping away at the lead and when Dyllan Taylor finished a layup with 1:58 remaining, MC held a 30-29 advantage.
  – Winford Ross knocked down a shot as time expired to give MC the 32-29 lead at the halftime break.
  – The Bucs would respond to open the second half as Aiden Ruthsatz hit a shot with 18 minutes to go and gave CBU a 36-34 lead.
  – On MC’s next possession, Dillyn Neely knocked down a three-pointer that gave the Choctaws a 37-36 lead, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
  – Overall, the Choctaws went on a 29-14 run over a 13-minute stretch that pushed the lead out to 63-48 with 5:13 to go.
  – During that run, MC went 12-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the three-point line to put the game away.
  – With 2:34 to go, TJ Ben (Mississippi Choctaw) capped off a personal 5-0 run with a pair of free throws to give the Choctaws their largest lead of the night at 70-50.


KEY STATS / NOTES
  – The Choctaws have now won two of the last three games against CBU with both victories coming in Clinton.
  – The win today split the weekend series after Christian Brothers won Friday’s game 67-62.
  – Brandon Boston led all scorers with 25 points, going 11-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
  – Zach Jones came off the bench to score 14 points, going 7-of-13 from the floor.
  – TJ Ben scored 13 points off the bench and had a season-high five assists to go along with four rebounds.
