Tianna Williams (Fort Mojave Indian Tribe) joins incoming Fresno State University softball class

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State Softball head coach Linda Garza announced on Friday that Tianna Williams (Fort Mojave Indian Tribe) will join the program for the 2020 season.

Williams joins a class of four newcomers announced during the early signing period in November. The five additions help offset the loss of six seniors who completed their Bulldog careers in May.

“I’m excited for Tianna to join the Bulldog family,” Garza said. “She brings a skill set that will enhance our level of play and I can’t wait to have her on campus and get to work.”

A 5′ 3″ infielder, Williams was a four-time Arizona Interscholastic Athletic Association 3A All-State selection and a 3A West all-conference team honoree at River Valley HS. She led the 3A West Conference in home runs and RBIs as a junior and has been named River Valley HS best offensive player.

Williams hit .564 as a junior and .512 as a senior. During her junior season she totaled eight home runs, 52 RBIs, and 56 runs with a .616 on-base percentage and a .963 slugging percentage while striking out only one time in 125 plate appearances, and as a senior she had a .619 OBP, seven homers, and 42 RBIs in just 32 games.

She hit .419 as a sophomore and .396 as a freshman as she totaled a .477 batting average, .538 on-base percentage, and .802 slugging percentage with 42 walks and only 16 strikeouts in 425 plate appearances in her HS career. Williams has also played club softball for AZ Bombers.

Williams, who was born in Needles, Calif. and is a member of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Neolge Clan, says she chose Fresno State for a number of reasons: the family-like atmosphere, the tradition of the university, high level competition, outstanding academics, amazing coaching staff, beautiful stadium, and campus.
