Tatum Lafrance (Mohawk) led all players with 19 kills as SUNY Canton defeats Plattsburgh State in five sets

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women’s volleyball team came back from down two sets to earn a thrilling 16-14 victory in the fifth set v. Plattsburgh State (25-27, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 16-14).

  • Plattsburgh held on late to win the opening set 27-25 before jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the second stanza. After trailing 11-2 early, Canton battled all the way back to take a 22-21 lead. However, the Cardinals regrouped to take the second set, 25-23.
  • SUNY Canton took an 11-8 lead in the third set and extended the advantage to 19-12 before closing it out, 25-18.
  • The Roos carried over their momentum from the third set into the fourth holding a 20-15 advantage in the fourth frame before holding on for the 25-22 win.
  • The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-3 lead midway through the fifth and decisive set and extended the advantage to 11-3 before the Roos rallied to get within 13-9 forcing a Plattsburgh timeout. The hosts continued to battle all the way back to take a 14-13 lead (11-2 run) before winning the set and match, 16-14.
  • Tatum Lafrance (Mohawk) led all players with 19 kills and added 13 digs. Melissa McMaster (13) and Marissa Ixtlahuac (11) also chipped in double digit kills, while McMaster totaled seven solo blocks.
  • Harris (8) and Camryn Smeatin (7) combined for 15 kills and Jenna Roat was stellar defensively with a match-best 28 digs. Houppert assisted a match-best 41 kills and added 13 digs, while Harris also posted 11 assists.
