Tamia Dockery (Navajo) Registers a Double-Double as Howard Bison Falls In Five Sets Against VCU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (September 9, 2017) – After earning a four-set victory over Virginia, the Howard Volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit and forced a deciding set; however, were unable to seal the deal as they lost to Virginia Commonwealth (23-25, 27-29, 25-23, 25-20, 11-15).

Despite the loss, Howard finished second overall in the tournament.

Khaila Donaldson had a team-best 19 kills and eight digs. Kira Porter, Jefferson Cup All-Tournament selection, registered 11 kills and eight blocks (one solo) in the loss.

Trailing after the first two sets, HU fought back and took sets three and four to force the fifth and deciding set.

VCU scored its first five-out-of-seven points on attack errors and took a 7-2 advantage midway through the set. Howard managed their way back into the set and pulled within two, 11-9, but the Rams would keep HU from completing the comeback,15-11.

Tamia Dockery (Navajo), Jefferson Cup All-Tournament selection, registered a double-double with 53 assists and 18 digs while Jessica Young added 14 kills in a losing effort.

For VCU (9-2), Alicia Kandler posted a double-double with 20 kills and 11 digs. Dajah Ard also produced a double-double, 31 assists and 14 digs, in the victory.

Next weekend (Sept.15-16), HU returns to the Nation’s Capital where they will host Iowa, Princeton, and American in the D.C. Classic.
