Summer Leitka (Seminole) Improves to (18-2) on the Season; Strikes out Nine Batters vs OBU

CHICKASHA – Kayla Adams tied a school record when she hit a three-RBI homer to left field in the first of two games on the road Thursday evening at Oklahoma Baptist.

Thanks in part to Adam’s bomb, the Drovers (29-6, 12-2) went on to win the first game 10-3 before dropping 4-2 to the Lady Bison (10-22, 4-7) in game two of the evening doubleheader.

Adams has tied team trainer Leslie Beaty in career home runs with 20. Beaty, who played three years at USAO, set the record in 2009. Adams earlier this season broke the school RBI record and extended it to 117 on Thursday.

The Drovers used a five-run first inning and a five-run fifth to secure their win in the opening game.

Adams went 2-for-3 in the game while scoring twice and batting three runs in.

First baseman Sevie Carel, whose walk-off grand slam earlier this week gave the Drovers a victory over No. 6 Saint Gregory’s, went 3-for-4 and batted four runs in while crossing home once.

Courtney Capps and Ciara Kuestersteffen each scored twice, and Kuestersteffen recorded an RBI in the game.

Shania Beck, Tate Landmark and Kaylin Taylor also scored.

Summer Leitka (18-2) pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters on her way to the victory. Leitka has thrown 16 complete games this season.

She pitched the first and one-third inning of the second game, striking out two of five batters. Landmark (6-2) was the pitcher of record after throwing the next three and two-third innings; she struck out two batters. Beck pitched the final inning without giving up a hit.

Offensively, the Drovers got on the board first in the second game with a sacrifice bunt by Capps, which scored Taylor, USAO’s lead-off hitter.

The Drovers didn’t score again until the sixth inning when Adams tripled to center field to score Hannah Neill, who was pinch running for Capps. Unfortunately, that’s where USAO’s rally ended.

USAO travels to Mid-America Christian for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader before their next home series, set for April 18 against No. 1 Oklahoma City. [FULL SCHEDULE]

The games versus the Stars will be the annual Pink Out Cancer series, hosted by Drovers Against Cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink or a DAC shirt, and the organization will be selling concessions.
