Rich Winter: I LIKE WHAT I SEE FROM THE TODD COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS

KELSIE HERMAN STARTED HER TCHS VARSITY CAREER WITH A 4TH PLACE FINISH AT DOUGLAS

By Rich Winter

I’ve been just giddy all weekend thinking about the results of the Douglas Invitational cross country race held on Friday just outside of Rapid City.

7th grader Kelsie Herman locked horns with some of the best AA runners in South Dakota and finished 4th with a good time in very windy conditions.

Just who was she running against?

1st – Emily Person Stevens – 16:13 – 4th in AA meet a year ago

2nd – Jamie Schwiess – Rapid City Stevens 16:24 – 9th in AA meet a year ago.

3rd – Gretchen Blain – Spearfish – 16:28 – 12th in AA meet a year ago.

4th – Kelsie Herman – Todd County – 16:42

5th – Allison Green – Sturgis – 16:54 – 8th in AA meet a year ago.

6th – Klair Kirche – STM – 16:57 – 25th in Class A meet a year ago.

In addition, the Lady Falcons looked pretty strong for an opening meet.

19th – Amory Prue – Todd County – 18:37

22nd – Karli Prue – Todd County 18:46

27th – Haylee Quick Bear – Todd County – 19:37 (Quick Bear was on the podium at the state meet a year ago but rested most of the summer to deal with a foot injury. She’s tough as nails and I expect her to be up there in a very short time.

That Herman girl is tough, watch out east river.

Todd County boys:

Pretty impressed with what the Todd County boys did also.

The race was won by Sturgis athlete Jacob Simmons who ran a 17:23

Daniel Whirlwind Soldier was the top Falcon runner, finishing 14th.

14th – Daniel WWS – 19:13

16th – Tobias Weddell – 19:23

19th – Donald Aquallo – 20:00

27th – Lee Sharpfish – 21:17

Todd County finished 2nd in the team race behind Rapid City Stevens.
