Payton Sierra (Oglala Lakota) Named the UMAC Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men’s and women’s golf team had a clean sweep of the UMAC weekly awards on Monday as Brady Raph took home the men’s award for Golfer of the Week and Payton Sierra (Oglala Lakota) earned the honor on the women’s side.

Sierra was the medalist in one tournament and the runner-up in two others this week for Minnesota Morris. Sierra set a career-best with a round of 79 in the first round of the Spartan Invitational last Sunday before closing with an 86 on Monday to shoot 165 and finish second in that tournament. She then was one shot back on Friday at the UMM Invite with an 87 and was the winner by three shots on Saturday at the Maroon & Gold Classic with an 83.

With the UMAC Championship right around the corner, the Minnesota Morris golf teams are in for another busy week in the days ahead. The Cougars play the first of three tournaments in the next five days on Tuesday with a trip to Ham Lake, Minn. for the UNW Invite beginning at 12:30 p.m.
