Oklahoma State junior Trevor Boone (Osage) hit three home runs, tying the Cowboys’ single-game HR record

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State cruised to a 15-0 win over No. 19 Texas Thursday night behind Jensen Elliott’s complete game gem and a record-setting effort from Trevor Boone (Osage Nation) at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

With the win, the Cowboys moved to 23-13 overall and 8-5 in Big 12 Conference play, while Texas dropped to 24-16 and 5-7 in the league.

Boone continued his impressive season for the Cowboys, smashing his 11th, 12th and 13th home runs of the season to move atop the Big 12 home run leaderboard. The junior, who recorded his second three home-run game in less than a week, became the first Cowboy ever to have three three-homer performances in his OSU career, and he finished the night 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored and five RBIs.

The Cowboys took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and did so without a hit when Christian Funk walked, advanced to second on a balk and to third on a fly out before coming across to score on a passed ball.

In the second, Boone and Alix Garcia went back-to-back with solo home runs to extend the OSU lead to 3-0 against UT righty Bryce Elder.

Boone’s second solo blast of the game came in the sixth, and Andrew Navigato’s RBI single to left in the seventh brought home Colin Simpson and grew OSU’s lead to 5-0.

The Cowboys busted the game open with 10 more runs in the eighth, highlighted by Boone’s record-setting third home run of the game, a three-run shot, and Hueston Morrill’s two-RBI double that missed being a grand slam by inches.
