OCU’s Mackenzie Wahpepah-Harris (Kickapoo Tribe) clocks second-best time in school history in the 1,500-meter race

Wahpepah-Harris flirts with OCU record at Oregon State High Performance Meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oklahoma City University’s Mackenzie Wahpepah-Harris (Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma) ran the second fastest time in OCU history in the 1,500-meter race Friday in the Oregon State High Performance Meet at Whyte Track and Field Center.
Wahpepah-Harris, a junior from Norman, Okla., clocked a time of three minutes and 47.81 seconds for second-place and improved upon his A standard qualifying time that he previously earned on April 20th at the Kansas Relays. The OCU record in the 1,500 meters is 3:44.00, set by Csaba Matko in 2014.
Michael Vercoe-Curtis, a senior from Kelston, Auckland, New Zealand, followed in ninth-place with a time of 3:54.63. He missed the A standard qualifying bid by 1.13 seconds and finished 0.99 seconds behind his previously recorded time at the Kansas Relays that garnered a B standard qualifying time.
In the 5,000-meter race, David Mountford, a junior from Shotton, Wales, placed third with a time of 14:42.22. He improved his previously obtained A standard qualifying time set at the Texas Relays on March 31st by 1.19 seconds.
