Notah Begay III receives sponsor exemption for PGA Tour Event

NDNSPORTS BRIEF:  Notah Begay III has been added to the  field of this week’s Reno-Tahoe Open. NB3 received one of the last two sponsor exemptions, one of which opening when defending champ Scott Piercy punched his ticket to Firestone on Sunday. Although, Notah is a past champion of this event and past champions typically receive an exemption, the PGA Tour changed the rules where his victory at the 1999 Reno Tahoe Open only provided him 10 year’s of exemption.

The Ren0 Tahoe open has also changed its scoring format this year and will be using the the modified Stableford system. the system is designed to reward aggressive play awards 8 points for double eagle, 5 points for eagle, 2 for birdie, zero for par, and minus 1 for bogey and minus 3 for double bogey or worse.

Notah is scheduled to tee off in the first round at 10:28 CST on Thursday August 2nd; the Golf Channel will be providing coverage of the Ren0-Tahoe Open.

Begay III missed the cut in each of his four previous starts on the PGA TOUR this year.
