NCAA’s Utah State University Hosting NAIA’s Haskell Indian Nations University Women’s Basketball Friday

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women’s basketball (2-3) returns to the familiar floor of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Friday, Dec. 4 to host Haskell Indian Nations University at 7 p.m.

Haskell Indian Nations University is an NAIA Division II school located in Lawrence, Kansas. Haskell is the only four-year athletic program in the United States where all student-athletes represent diverse American Indian and Alaska Native nations. The Haskell Athletics programs were a part of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference until it was dissolved after the 2014-15 season. The women’s basketball team now plays independently.

The Indians are 8-2 so far this season, including a 5-1 road record. The team started the season on a seven-game winning streak before losing two straight. The Indians are coming off a 72-64 home win over Ottawa University.

Junior guard Kortney Meat is the leading scorer for Haskell, averaging 12.8 points per game. Defensively, junior center Keli Warrior leads the Indians with 7.2 rebounds per game. As a team, Haskell is averaging 70.6 points per game while shooting 43.9 percent (271-of-617) from the floor, 32.8 percent (83-of-253) from the 3-point line and 74.5 percent (152-of-204) from the free throw line.

Shane Flanagan is in his fifth season as the head coach at Haskell, where he has a 62-69 record. No stranger to the Mountain West, Flanagan was a longtime assistant coach at New Mexico before joining the Haskell staff and played college basketball at Boise State.

All regular-season home and Mountain West games will continue to be broadcast through the Aggie Digital Network and the Mountain West Network this season, powered by Campus Insiders. All USU games will also be broadcast on the radio on 107.7 KLZX in Cache Valley, as well as an online stream, with Craig Hislop on the call. Live stats and play-by-play information will be available through GameTracker, while updates will also be provided through the team’s social media outlets. Links to each option will be available online prior to every game.
