Michael Buchanan (Blackfeet Tribe) Named Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

LakePoint, Ga. – For the second time in his career, University of South Carolina-Upstate 7’0″senior center Michael Buchanan (Blackfeet Tribe) has been tabbed the ASUN Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following his performance last week in two road games at Charlotte and College of Charleston, the league office announced this afternoon.

Buchanan came off the bench in both games to average a double-double of 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as the Spartans went 1-1 highlighted by a 108-103 overtime victory at Charlotte. The Las Vegas, Nev. native posted an 80.0% (20-of-25) shooting percentage on the week and averaged 26.0 minutes of playing time per game.

The senior began the week by going 11-of-14 (78.6%) from the field and scored a season-high 24 points while tying his career-high of 14 rebounds against Charlotte. The double-double turned in by Buchanan was his first of 2016-17 and 11th of his career. He followed that performance with a game-high 21 points, to go with six rebounds, on 9-for-11 (81.8%) shooting on Sunday at College of Charleston.

Buchanan, who is the first Upstate player this season to earn weekly recognition from the conference, ranks second in the ASUN in rebounding with 8.5 per game and sits eighth with 0.8 blocks per contest. He also ranks second in the league in field goal percentage at 66.7% and 14th in scoring with 12.5 points per game.
