Merrily Jones (Cayuse Tribe) tallied 13 points, 15 rebounds for Evergreen State College

No. 19-ranked Southern Oregon pulled away in the middle two quarters to beat Evergreen, 85-55, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball game played Friday night inside Costantino Recreation Center.

Deidra Miller scored 18 points and Merrily Jones (Cayuse Tribe) tallied 13 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks for the Geoducks (0-14, 0-10).

Evergreen, despite being down to only six players, battled with the nationally ranked Raiders (13-5, 9-3) through the game’s first 15 minutes before the visitors put together a late second quarter surge to go on top 33-22 at the half.

Southern Oregon opened up the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Geoducks, 29-14, to build an insurmountable 62-36 advantage through three quarters.

Joining Miller and Jones in double figures of the Geoducks were Anna Cook with 13 points and Angela Sikora with 11, including a trio of three-pointers. Sikora leads the conference in that category.

Southern Oregon double-figure scorers beside Fryer and Hinkey were Ariel Augustine with 13 and Delaney Sparling with 10. Fryer and Sophia Altemus both grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Raiders to a 45-34 edge in that category.

Evergreen shot 38.0 percent overall (19-for-50) while Southern Oregon shot 44.9 percent overall (35-for-78) and were 13-for-38 from three-point range.
