Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) led the Toreros offense with 14 kills who Cruise Past Anteaters, 3-1

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Three different University of San Diego women’s volleyball players recorded double-digit kills to help lift the 15th-ranked Toreros to a 3-1 win over UC Irvine Thursday evening in the opening match of the USD Tournament at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 3-2 overall, while the Anteaters fall to 2-5 with the loss.

USD’s offense was paced by both Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), and Lisa Kramer, who each had 14 kills. Schad hit for a .636 clip, while also recording a pair of blocks, while Kramer hit .125 and had three digs. Jayden Kennedy was the final Torero in double digit kills, as she had 11, and hit for a .286 clip. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded a match-best 43 assists, while Hunter Jenningshad a season-high 19 digs. Kaity Edwards was impressive on the serve this evening, as she recorded a career-high six aces, which ties her for third most in USD single-match history.

As a team, USD hit .271, while holding the Anteaters to a dismal .165 clip. UCI out blocked the Toreros 12-6, and USD recorded 54 digs, while Irvine had 33 digs.

For the Anteaters, Victoria Dennis led the way offensively with 12 kills, while Luna Tsujimoto had 10 digs, and Sheiley Anderson had 31 assists.

The Toreros will return to action on Friday evening at 7 p.m., as they take on No. 18 Colorado inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
