Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) had 12 Kills and 6 blocks in Win over Loyola Marymount on ESPNU matchup

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Behind one of the guttiest performances of the season, the sixth-ranked University of San Diego women’s volleyball team overcame a 0-2 deficit to claim a thrilling 3-2 win over Loyola Marymount University Tuesday evening in a West Coast Conference match.

With the 20-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-11 win, the Toreros improve to 11-2 overall, move to 3-0 in the WCC, and run their winning streak to 11. With the loss, the Lions fall to 10-4 overall and move to 1-1 in the WCC.

Lisa Kramer led all players with 21 kills, while hitting .366 with three blocks and one dig. Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) was the second Torero in double digit kills, as she had 12, hit .455 and had six blocks, two solo. Kristen Gengenbacher led all players with 44 assists, while also recording five digs. Hunter Jennings recorded a match-best 13 digs.

As a team, USD hit for a .208 clip, while LMU hit .313. The Toreros recorded 46 digs, while LMU had 40 digs. San Diego out-blocked the Lions 13.0-12.0.

For the Lions, Savannah Slattery led the offense with 16 kills, while Sascha Dominique added in 15 kills Sarah Sponcil had 13 kills, and Erin Williams had 10 kills. Jessie Prichard led the team with 27 assists, while Sponcil had a team-best 13 digs to post a double-double.

USD will return to action on Friday, as they return to the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion to host NO. 11 BYU. This WCC match begins at 7 p.m.
