Kevin Hill (Mvskoke Creek) was named to the 2016 Dick Howser Award semifinalist list, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association

DALLAS – University of South Alabama right-handed pitcher Kevin Hill (Muscogee Creek Nation) was named to the 2016 Dick Howser Award semifinalist list, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Friday.

Hill is one of 43 semifinalists named to the list, which is based on two rounds of national voting. The Dick Howser Award is given annually to the top player in collegiate baseball.

Hill (8-1) leads the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts (117) and innings pitched (109.2), tied for second in wins (8), ranks third in ERA (2.38) and fourth in opposing batting average (.214). The Oklahoma City, Okla., native ranks fourth in career strikeouts (317) at USA, and needs just 11 to pass former Jaguar All-American Mike Zimmerman (327) for third on the all-time list.

Hill has tossed four complete games and combined for one shutout this year. In 10 SBC starts, he is 6-0 with a 2.13 ERA and 74 strikeouts against 19 walks in 80 1/3 innings pitched. Three of Hill’s four complete games this season have come against conference opponents.

This is the 30th year of the Dick Howser Trophy, presented by Easton Foundations. The finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 9.  The 2016 award will be presented at TD Ameritrade Stadium in downtown Omaha, the home of the College World Series for the sixth year. The winner will be unveiled on MLB Network on Fri., June 17 and then a press conference with the winner will be held on Sat., June 18 at 10 a.m., the opening day of the 2016 College World Series..
