Kelsey Watson (Comanche Tribe) Throws her Third Straight Shutout as Cameron Aggies sweep Javelinas

LAWTON – The Cameron softball swept their double-header against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, and took the weekend series 4-0. Kelsey Watson (Comanche Tribe) threw her third straight shutout in the game one 7-0 victory, while Lauren Renneker drove in three of the Ags four runs in the game two 4-1 win.

In game one, Cameron got on the board in the bottom of the first going up 2-0 as Tara Martini hit her ninth homer of the season, and drove in Chelsea DeLong, who hit a double in the previous at bat.

After a scoreless second, the Aggies added three more runs in the bottom of the third. Paige Daino drove in a run on a double of the outfield fence, and then two batters late,Breezy McComas brought in a pair on an RBI single, making it 5-0 in favor of CU after three innings.

Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning, but CU put up another two spot in the bottom of the sixth. The first came off an RBI single from DeLong and the second came when Carly Allerheiligen scored after Misty Dooley got caught in a pickle and reached second.

Watson pitched her third straight shutout in her eighth win of the season. She went all sevens and gave up five hits with five strikeouts. She has now gone 25 straight innings without giving up an earned run.

The Aggies tallied 11 hits in game one, with Dooley, DeLong, Martini, and McComas all adding a pair of knocks. Both Martini and McComas had a pair of RBIs as well.

Cameron started game two out the same as the first, scoring three runs in the first frame. After DeLong doubled down the line and Martini walked, Renneker hit a two out, three run homer for her ninth of the season to put the Ags up 3-0 early.

McComas added another run to the Aggie lead in the bottom of the fourth, hitting her sixth home run of the season to straight away center field to put CU up 4-0.

The Javelinas would bring in a run in the top of the fifth, but that’s all they would get as CU starter, Katelyn Craker went all seven innings and gave up just four hits and struck out five for her fifth win of the season.

Cameron collected just four hits in the game Renneker providing most of the offense on her three run homer in the first.

The pair of wins today moves CU to 19-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play, while TAMUK falls to 7-12 and 1-7 in league play.

The Aggies will take on a non-conference opponent for their next taste of action, as they face Oklahoma Christian in a double-header on Mar. 17 starting at 1 p.m.
