Kelsey Watson (Comanche) Named to First Team All-Lone Star Conference

CANYON, Texas – The Cameron University softball team took a program record nine All-Lone Star Conference Awards and Newcomer of the Year at the league’s postseason banquet on Thursday evening.

Lauren Renneker was named Newcomer of the Year after a senior season where she batted .393 with 18 homers, 59 hits, and 57 RBI.  The senior was honored two weeks ago as LSC Hitter of the Week and  was also a First Team honoree.

Tara Martini, Kelsey Watson (Comanche Nation), and Paige Daino also headlined Cameron with First Team selections, the team’s most since 2009. This is the second year in a row that Martini was named as First Team All-Conference, and third overall award.   Watson was named second team All-Conference in 2014 and this is Daino’s first postseason honor.

Carly Allerheiligen and Breezy McComas were Second Team selections; Allerheiligen batted .368 at the plate with 56 hits.  This is McComas’ second honor, she was named to the league’s Third Team in 2014, she led the Aggies at the plate with a .395 average, 17 doubles, and 11 homers.

Cameron had three on the Third Team with Chelsea DeLong, Macy McKay, and Sonora Zukerman making the list.  Zukerman was named All-Conference in 2013, while this is the first LSC honor for both DeLong and McKay.

CU and West Texas A&M both had nine players named to the all-conference team.  Texas Woman’s had six recognized, while Angelo State and Tarleton State had five each, Texas A&M-Commerce four, and Midwestern State three.  Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville had one apiece.

Overall, 43 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, with a player from all nine LSC teams.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches, who determined an 18-player first team by position, along with second and third teams, consisting of 12 and 13 players, respectively, regardless of positions.
