Kansas Freshman starting pitcher Eli Davis (Seminole) didn’t allow a run for the second time this season

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After jolting out to a four-run lead in the second inning, Kansas didn’t look back as it blasted past Furman, 15-1, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Latham Stadium.

Kansas junior shortstop Benjamin Sems began the scoring barrage in the first inning with his first of two home runs on the day.

The Jayhawks (22-20) doubled down on Furman (18-26) by hanging another two spot in the bottom of the second inning. Junior second baseman James Cosentino roped a triple down the line that scored senior center fielder Rudy Karre and sophomore designated hitter Blaine Ray.

The true fireworks began in the fourth inning when Sems blasted his second home run en route to an eight-run inning.

Furman’s offense didn’t yield a run until the final inning, much to the credit of redshirt-freshman starting pitcher Eli Davis (Seminole). The left-hander effortlessly maneuvered through seven shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out five.
