Kali Sargent (Washoe Tribe) pitched a complete game in Nevada’s opening round win of the NISC

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team defeated the NISC defending champions of Loyola Marymount in a 4-3 contest on Thursday evening. The Pack is now 28-25 overall with Kali Sargent, (Washoe Tribe) the winning pitcher at 8-10 on the year.

Sargent pitched a complete game only allowing four hits with five strikeouts in the win over LMU. The senior now has 96 K’s on the year in her 109 2/3 innings pitched.

Nevada scored the first run in the first inning on a double by Dallas Millwood, and was followed up with an RBI single from Kenzi Goins in the third inning. Senior Alyssa Mendezwas responsible for run number three, an RBI single that scored Haley Burda to put the Pack up, 3-0.

LMU however responded with a two-run homer by Delanie Wisz to cut the Nevada lead to one, 3-2.

The Pack was not going away though as Millwood struck again in the fifth inning, another double and made it to third on the throw to plate Goins and take back the two run lead. Again LMU hit a home run but this time it was a solo shot, 4-3 Nevada. A solid defensive half inning by the Pack kept the Lions at bay and took the win.

Next up, the Wolf Pack take on Fresno State on Friday at 1 p.m. PT in Round 2, and LMU faces UC Riverside in a rematch of last year’s championship game. All games have live stats and live stream through Mountain West Network available.
