TULSA, OKLA- Justin Thomas picked up his second career PGA Championship win on Sunday at Southern Hills Country Club in stunning fashion, after entering the day down seven strokes. Thomas would defeat Will Zalatoris in a three-hole playoff, after going three under par for the day and five under par for the tournament.

All eyes at the beginning of the day though were on Rickie Fowler, who finished tied for 23rd. Fowler finished the tournament at two over par and was even for the day on Sunday.

Fowler drew the largest following among the gallery, after Tiger Woods withdrew on Saturday.  As a former college golfer at Oklahoma State, Fowler felt close to home this weekend.

Southern Hills was filled with plenty of fans in orange and black, as the course is just over an hour away from Oklahoma State’s campus in Stillwater. There was also a large contingency of Native American fans following Fowler, with the event taking place on the Muscogee Reservation.

Fowler’s run at the PGA Championship was the best performance at a major since last year’s PGA Championship at Kiawah Island, where he finished tied for eighth.

This year’s event was Fowler’s first major of 2022, as Fowler failed to qualify for The Masters with his recent struggles, which forced Fowler to fall out of the Top 100 of the World Golf Rankings.

The PGA Championship was the first ever professional event that Fowler has played in Oklahoma. He has previously played in the Tulsa metro at the Patriot Cup in Owasso, a charity exhibition golf event that benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation.
