Joba Chamberlain (Winnebago Tribe) called up, gives up 2 runs in Royals debut

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Royals purchased the contracts of right-handed relievers Joba Chamberlain (Ho-Chunk/Winnebago Tribes) and Louis Coleman from Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Chamberlain made his Royals debut later that night, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in one inning.

Chamberlain, who is 25-21 with seven saves in 359 big-league appearances with the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers, was 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA with the Storm Chasers but allowed one earned run and seven hits in seven innings over his final seven appearances.

He was released by the Tigers in July, then by the Toronto Blue Jays, for whom he only pitched in the minor leagues. He was signed by the Royals last month.

Chamberlain is a former Nebraska teammate of Royals All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon.

The Royals designated for assignment right-hander Yohan Pino and infielder Dusty Coleman to make roster space for Chamberlain and Coleman.
