Jacob Jensen (Chippewa) breaks the Minot State University school record in the men’s 6,000 meter race

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The excitement of racing for the first time in two years might have been enough, but the Minot State men’s cross-country team surpassed that with a new record and a fourth-place finish at Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Dragon Twilight on Friday hosted.

Jacob Jensen (Turtle Mountain Chippewa) broke the NCAA Division II school record in the men’s 6,000 meters at the race, finishing eighth individually in 19 minutes, 4.9 seconds, leading the way for the Beaver men’s team which was fourth out of nine teams with a score of 95 points.

“I thought they had a really good day, beat some teams traditionally we haven’t beaten before,” said Mark Del Monaco, Minot State’s director of cross country. “Jacob was top 10 and broke the school record, so that was awesome.”

Jensen broke the 6K record of 19:17 run by Leo Skellenger at this same event during the 2019 season.

“Going into the race I wanted to run a really fast time,” Jensen said, adding that despite a record effort, he still could have done better, “… I really wanted to finish higher, maybe like around top five today.”

The Beavers return to action quickly as they will be back in action on the road next Saturday, racing at the MSSU Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo., on Sept. 18.
