(Kansas City, MO) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball program come into the 2016-2017 Women’s Basketball Preseason Top 25 Coaches’ Poll as the No. 25 ranked team in the nation. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

After winning the school’s first women’s basketball conference (A.I.I.) championship, the Lady Indians earned an automatic spot in the 2015-2016 NAIA DII National Championship tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. Haskell would finish the season with a (23-7) record.

Head coach Shane Flanagan returns seniors, Cerissa Honena, Kortney Meat, Brandi Buffalo, Tinaya Murphy, and Sylvana Levier from last year’s squad. Haskell also returns 3 out of the 5 starters.

Poll Methodology

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
  • Frequency of polls occur bi-weekly. This policy was approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC) for the 2016-17 academic season. This change will allow raters the opportunity to consider a larger body of work in between rating periods.
