Haskell Indian Nations University hire Alta Malchoff-St. Pierre as its New Head Volleyball Coach

(Lawrence, Kansas) – Haskell Indian Nations University’s Department of Athletics announce Alta Malchoff-St. Pierre as the head coach for the returning A.I.I. Conference Championship Volleyball Team

Alta Malchoff-St. Pierre was born in Port Graham, Alaska.  She attended the University of Alaska Anchorage for two year then took a year off and worked in Port Graham Elementary/High School for a year as a paraprofessional.  After the year, Alta transferred down to Lawrence, Kansas to attend Haskell Indian Nations University and pursue her dream of playing volleyball at the collegiate level.  Alta played as a setter for three years. In her time, she was awarded through her team most valuable player, Warrior Woman, and NAIA All-Academic American Scholar Athlete.  Alta also was on the dean’s and president’s list academically for Haskell. In December of 2004, she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

After graduation, Alta resided in Lawrence after a brief visit back to Port Graham.  She volunteered her time with the Haskell Volleyball program as an assistant coach. In 2013, Alta took some time away from coaching to attend the University of Kansas and work on her master’s in special education. In December of 2015, Alta moved to South Dakota and taught special education for Marty Indian School and Andes Central School District.  During her time, she also coached at the middle/high school level. Alta also held volleyball camps with local students at the Boys and Girls Club.  

Alta currently lives with her husband Kenny, and three children KJ, Keeley, and Keenani. 

“I am very honored to have an opportunity to come full circle and to be able to give back to Haskell due to the fact that it has been the biggest support in my life and start of my career. I have always wanted this opportunity and I believe that the family unity that comes with Haskell volleyball and the program, I want to continue that legacy.”

Haskell returns All-American middle hitter Alliyah Richards for her final season with the Indians who begin the season on August 23rd in Emporia, Kansas at the KCAC Fall Fling Tournament .
