Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) Finishes 4th as Lady Raiders Run Away With Red Raider Invitational Title

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech women’s golf team shot a final round 287 (one under) to run away from the field and win the 2016 Red Raider Invitational title by 13 strokes Saturday afternoon at The Rawls Course.The team title was Tech’s second of the season.

“Our players knew what they had to do coming out today,” said Lady Raider head coach JoJo Robertson. “The conditions were tough, but our team stuck it out today and played great golf.”

The Lady Raiders rallied from fourth place after day one to clinch the win. Tech finished the first 36 holes just five strokes behind BYU. Tech was the only team in the 14-team field to break par under blustery conditions on Saturday. Tech finished 13 strokes ahead of second place Purdue, followed by Big 12 rivals Kansas and Kansas State. Second round leader BYU finished fifth.

Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was senior Sarah Brown, who shot a final round 68 (four under) to finish the tournament at six under, one stroke behind Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas for the tournament’s individual title. Just behind Brown, Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) tied for fourth place with an even par total. Teammates Lauren Mason and Mami Yamamoto tied for 13th at six over, while Kimmy Hill was a stroke back at seven over.

The Lady Raiders completed their regular season schedule with two wins and nine top-10 finishes. Tech will compete in the Big 12 Championships on April 22-24 in San Antonio, Texas.
