Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) earns third top-10 finish this season in tie for Eighth Place at Briar Creek Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – Mami Yamamoto paced No. 23 Texas Tech during the final round of the Briar’s Creek Invitational on Tuesday as her 2-under-par 70 placed the Lady Raiders in a tie for seventh overall.

Behind Yamamoto, the Lady Raiders fired a 3-over 291 as a team, their lowest round of the two-day tournament. Tech closed the event with a 14-over 878 final score that finished tied with Ohio State.

“I’m really proud of the team for the way they played today,” Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. “Everyone fought until the end and gave it everything they had. It was great to see Mami play the way she did and finish today under par.”

Yamamoto’s round marked her second-lowest of the season as she previously finished with 5-under 67 during Tech’s dual match against Texas earlier this month. She closed the event at 7-over for the tournament and in a tie for 43rd individually.

Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) was Tech’s highest finisher as her 3-over final round placed her in a tie for eighth at 1-under for the tournament. It was Barker’s third top-10 finish this season and the sixth time where she has been among the top-20 players.

Sofia Garcia added a top-20 finish of her own as the freshman chipped in a similar 3-over final round to close the event in a tie for 18th. It was her second top-20 performance already this year.

Lauren Mason recorded Tech’s second-lowest final round as she was even over the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for 63rd overall. Cara Barker, meanwhile, put together a 2-over final round to finish in a tie for 53rd individually.

No. 5 Florida ran away with the team title as the Gators were 15-under as a team, 18 strokes better than second-place Campbell. Illinois, Miami and Auburn rounded out the top five while Michigan finished in sixth place overall.

The Lady Raiders hit the links again in less than a week for the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia. Tech opens the two-day tournament next Monday morning.
