Gabby Barker (Shoshone-Paiute) Finishes 7th as Lady Raiders Wrap up First Place Finish at Henssler Collegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. — Texas Tech women’s golf completed the final round of the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate with a 10-stroke, first place victory Tuesday afternoon at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.

The first place finish at Tuesday’s event marked the fifth, top-five finish, and first tournament title, for the Lady Raiders in the 2015-16 season.

“It is great to see the team get their first win,” said head Texas Tech women’s golf coach JoJo Robertson. “They have worked really hard and it is starting to show.”

Texas Tech finished 19-over par on the day, and finished on top of the leaderboard with a combined 890, 10-strokes ahead of No. 34 Augusta. The Lady Raiders led the field with 40 birdies through three rounds of play.

The Lady Raiders had three top-ten individual finishes, and five top-twenty placements in the tournament. Lauren Mason tied for first place at the event after shooting a combined 221 (four over). Mason finished atop the leaderboard with Troy’s Fatima Cano and Augusta’s Josefine Nyqvist. “I am so happy for Lauren,” added Robertson. “She has been working hard and has been really close to breaking through and today she did.”

Mami Yamamoto and Gabby Barker (Shoshone-Paiute)finished sixth and seventh overall, shooting a 224 (eight over) and 225 (nine over) for the competition. Rounding out Texas Tech’s scorecard were Sarah Brown and Kimmy Hill. Brown finished the final round with a combined score of 226 (10 over) landing her the tied 12th spot on the leaderboard. Hill finished the tournament with a combined 227 (11 over).

The next competition for the Lady Raiders golf team will be April 1-2 at the SMU Invitational tournament in Dallas, TX.
