Dream top Mystics, 73-67, keep playoff hopes alive; Shoni Schimmel adds Seven for Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) Angel McCoughtry scored 18, Tiffany Hayes added 17 and Sancho Lyttle finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to help the Atlanta Dream keep their slim playoff hopes alive and beat the Washington Mystics 73-67 on Sunday. Shoni Schimmel had 7 points and 3 assists in the game as well.

Atlanta (13-18) trails the Mystics (16-15) by three games with three games remaining. The Dream holds the tie-breaker, leading the season series 3-0. The teams will play in Atlanta on Sept. 13 to conclude the regular season.

Hayes hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark an 11-1 run that pushed Atlanta’s lead to 53-38 with 6 minutes left in the third quarter.

Ivory Latta scored six during an 8-1 spurt that pulled the Mystics within five, 66-61, with 1:22 remaining, but McCoughtry converted a three-point play 22 seconds later and Washington trailed by at least two possessions the rest of the way.

Latta led the Mystics with 22 points while Emma Meesseman scored 15.
