Devin Buffalo (Cree Nation) Named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Devin Buffalo (Cree Nation) was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.

The Wetaskiwin, Alberta, native was recognized after wins against No. 7 Clarkson and St. Lawrence to cap his team’s regular season home slate.

In those two games, Buffalo stopped 51-of-54 shots faces, including 33 against the seventh-ranked Golden Knights. In all, he finished the weekend with a 1.50 goals against average and a .944 save percentage, third-best amongst starters with at least two appearances last week.

Included in those 33 saves against Clarkson were 12 in the third period with the visitors looking to tie the game and force overtime. A sprawling glove save in the final minutes of regulation helped preserve the win and garnered national recognition as the No. 6 play of the week across all sports as announced by the NCAA on Monday.

The anchor of the team’s defense, Buffalo’s strong showings helped Dartmouth to its first ever season sweep of both Clarkson and St. Lawrence in the same year. The Big Green had only once previously taken both games from the Golden Knights in a season, doing so back in 2005-06.

This is the first weekly accolade for Buffalo in his career. Harvard’s Adam Fox was tabbed as the conference’s Player of the Week, while Matthew Galajda of Cornell was named the Rookie of the Week yet again.

This award comes on the heels of sophomore Shane Sellarbeing named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week last Monday along with classmate Will Graber being named the NCAA’s Third Star of the Week.

Buffalo and his teammates close out the 2017-18 regular season on the road this weekend at Yale and Brown, seeking to lock up home ice in the first round of the upcoming ECAC Hockey postseason tournament.
