Des Gonzalez (Navajo) has been named GSAC Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season

GLENDALE, Ariz. – This afternoon, the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) announced that women’s basketball forward, Des Gonzalez (Navajo) had been named GSAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.

The Kingman, Ariz. native helped lead the Firestorm to a 2-0 record last week.  In those two wins she averaged 25.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, three blocks, and two assists.  She also shot .463 from the field, .417 on threes, and was a perfect 6-for-6 on free throws.  She also won GSAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season on Jan. 11.

Head Coach Rusty Rogers said of her performance, “Des had a great week for us when we needed it most.  Although she has consistently been racking up doubles-doubles all season, she really asserted herself these last two games.  In my view there should be more accolades coming her way.  She’s had a great season!”

With one game to go, Gonzalez is averaging a double-double on the season and leads her team in points per game (16.8), rebounds per game (10), and total blocks (17).
