Derek Frick Earns Top 15 Finish at MCAC Tournament

LAWRENCE, Kan. –Competition is complete at the 2012 MCAC golf tournament and Haskell junior Derek Frick (Seminole Tribe) is the highest placing Indian after he shot a final round 80, Tuesday at Eagle bend Golf Course in Lawrence. The Arlington, Texas native finished tied for 14th place and (+21) for the tournament, following his first round 80 and second round 77.

“He was just a couple puts away from being First Team-All Conference,” said HINU golf coach Gary Tanner about Frick. “He is a little disappointed in that, but I am not disappointed in him because he gave a really good effort.”

Instead of First Team All-Conference, Frick will have to settle for All-Conference Honorable Mention, a feat which Tanner thinks will give him confidence heading into his senior season.

“This is the first conference tournament that we’ve been in, so now he knows what he has to do to be that top individual to qualify for the national tournament.”

Other Haskell golfers in the conference tournament included Randy Tate, Josh Little Axe and Bo Schneider, who finished in 26th, 27th and 28th place respectively.

As a team the Indian golfers finished in sixth place with a final round combined score of 388. Below are the complete results from the two-day tournament.
