David Murphy (Sioux) Wins Javelin Throw at Sioux City Relays and Named Athlete of the Week

rp_primary_Murphy_AlbrightABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State’s David Murphy (men’s track and field) and Rachel Albright (softball) have been named as the Qdoba Scholar Athletes of the Week for their academic and athletic efforts last week.  Each week, Qdoba Mexican Grill honors two athletes for their efforts on the field of play. Nominees must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to qualify.

David Murphy (Standing Rock Sioux) took home a first place finish in the javelin for the men’s track and field team at the Sioux City Relays. Murphy recorded a lifetime best throw of 52.74m (173’00”) for the victory.

Rachel Albright led the Wolves softball team this past week hitting .409 in seven games played. NSU finished the week with a 5-2 record versus U-Mary, MSU Moorhead, Winona State, and Upper Iowa. The sophomore is currently on a nine game hit streak dating back to April 11th. Over the week she recorded two multiple hit games versus MSU Moorhead and Upper Iowa. Rachel went 9-for-22 from the plate with five RBI, two walks, and one run scored. Her best game came against the Peacocks, where the outfielder was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
