Dajan Treder (Inupiaq/Unagan) Becomes University of Providence’s First-Ever All-American at Inaugural NAIA Wrestling Invitational

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Treder claims a third-place finish in the 123-pound weight class to become the University of Providence’s first-ever All-American at the NAIA Women’s Wrestling Invitational at Harold Newman Arena in Jamestown, North Dakota on Saturday, March 16.

University of Providence finished 16th out of a field of 19 programs as a team.

Dajan Treder (Inupiaq/Unagan) claimed a third-place over Macy Higa of Eastern Washington. She opened the tournament with a dominant 12-2 victory over tournament host University of Jamestown’s Arianna Marrufo. Treder took a 6-0 lead through the first minute of the match. Marrufo cut the deficit to two, but six more points from Treder closed out the match with a 12-2 victory.

Treder then took on Midland University’s Haley Schiermeyer during the quarterfinals. 41 seconds into the match, Treder tallied four points over 11 seconds before earning a victory by injury at the 55-second mark.

During the NAIA Invitational semifinals, Treder would face Campbellsville’s Koral Sugiyama. Sugiyama would tally a point during the first period to hold an early lead. She tallied two more to open the second to lead 3-0. She tallied two more points with 20 seconds remaining in the match, before Treder would tally her first two points of the match with 18 seconds to play but it wasn’t enough as she would fall 5-2.

Treder moved into the consolation to take on Alannah Vetterick of Midland University. Treder dominated the opening period as she tallied four points that led to a 1-minute pin to advance to the third-place bout.

Against Macy Higa of Eastern Oregon, Treder opened the match with a pair of points 12 seconds into the match. Higa responded with two points of her own to tie things up after the first period, 2-2. Higa took the lead in the opening minute of the second period tacking on two more points to lead by two, 4-2. Treder rallied over the final minute and a half to score six unanswered points to close out the match and take the 8-4 victory to claim third.
