Chenise Peone (Colville Tribes) adds 12 points to go with eight rebounds as Sharks Dominate Sunbirds

HONOLULU, HI (January 10, 2015) – The Hawai’i Pacific Women’s Basketball Team (13-2, 8-0) continued its undefeated run through the PacWest Conference with a 77-40 victory over visiting Fresno Pacific (2-10, 2-5) at Moanalua High on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks completely dominated this contest in every aspect. HPU led from wire-to-wire and the game’s outcome was never in doubt. Just over five minutes into the game, HPU already led 15-2. By the half, HPU’s lead stood at 17 (37-20).

FPU never got inside of 15 points in the second half as HPU fans just waited for the clock to run out. Dayanara Armenta put HPU up 20 with a three-pointer with 17:46 to play. Kylie Huerta got to the basket at the 9:58 mark of the second half to put the Sharks up 61-30. The Sharks’ advantage reached 40 on a free throw by Kerianne Noonan late in the ballgame.

Morganne Comstock was again sensational, the senior scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in just 30 minutes of action. Chenise Peone (Colville Tribes) added 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Huerta passed out 10 assists, for reference, FPU had five assists as a team.

HPU owned the boards, winning the battle 49-31. The HPU defense forced 20 turnovers and held FPU to 15-56 (26.8%) shooting.

The Sharks now swim to the mainland for a rematch at Fresno Pacific on January 17th.
