Chase Scanlan (Seneca Nation) Named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Year

(Baltimore) – Loyola University-Maryland’s Chase Scanlan (Seneca Nation) was named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Year it was announced this week.

In addition, he was also named to the 2019 Men’s Lacrosse All-Patriot League First Team as well.

Scanlan has had one of the best rookie seasons of any player in NCAA Division I this year. His 38 goals are tops not only among first-year players, but he also leads all midfielders in goals scored, regardless of academic class. With 38 goals and 13 assists, he has 51 points in his first Loyola season.

The midfielder has scored at least one goal in every game this season, and he has eight contests with three or more goals. With his last goal, an early tally Friday night at Lafayette College, Scanlan broke the record of 37 goals by a freshman set in 2016 by Spencer and tied last season by Lindley. With four more goals, he will set the record for goals by a Loyola midfielder in a season, surpassing the mark of 41 set just last season by Jay Drapeau.
