Chadron State College Signs Samantha Warrior (Ponca Tribe) in Early Signing Period

by Kaleb Center, Interim Sports Information Director, CSC

CHADRON, Neb. — In the early signing period of 2015, Chadron State College women’s basketball added one strong name to its roster for 2016-17, head coach Tim Connealy announced today.

Sami Warrior (Ponca Tribe), a member of Lincoln Southwest High School Class of 2016, is a 5-8 combo guard who enters her senior season coming off of two straight Nebraska Class A All-State honorable mention performances in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Sami to the CSC Family,” said coach Connealy. Sami comes from a very tight knit basketball family. She is hardworking, coachable, and has a great feel for the game. She has been described as true “basketball” player and with the departures of Steph and Emma after this year, she’ll be able to fill a need at the wing position. She’s an excellent shooter who can hit from all over the floor and well behind the arc. She has the handle of a point guard with above average foot speed for guards at our level. Sami is the type of player that can help take this program to the next level and is the type of person that will make our community proud.”

Warrior has attended Lincoln Southwest for all but one semester, when she was at Winnebago High School in fall of her junior year. As an outside and middle hitter for Winnebago volleyball, she collected 1.3 blocks per set, more than three digs per set, and had 17 service aces, en route to all-conference honorable mention.

She will enroll at Chadron State in fall of 2016, intending to study psychology with the eventual goal of pursuing a doctorate and a career in clinical psychology within the U.S. armed forces. She will also participate in ROTC, while earning her degree and playing basketball.

Her parents, Dr. Anitra Warrior and Travis Mallory, reside in Lincoln, where her mother Anitra recently earned a doctorate in psychology from the University of Nebraska.
